Title: Spellcaster

Series: Spellbound #2

Author: Cara Lynn Shultz

Read via: Net Galley

Finding your eternal soulmate – easy.
Stopping a true-love-hungry evil – not so much…
After breaking a centuries-old romantic curse, Emma Connor is (almost) glad to get back to normal problems. Although…it’s not easy dealing with the jealous cliques and gossip that rule her exclusive Upper East Side prep, even for a sixteen-year-old newbie witch. Having the most-wanted boy in school as her eternal soul mate sure helps ease the pain-especially since wealthy, rocker-hot Brendan Salinger is very good at staying irresistibly close….
But something dark and hungry is using Emma and Brendan’s deepest fears to reveal damaging secrets and destroy their trust in each other. And Emma’s crash course in über-spells may not be enough to keep them safe…or to stop an inhuman force bent on making their unsuspected power its own.

After I fell in love with Spellbound, I was extremely excited to read Spellcaster. At the start of the story, I was wondering if perhaps this was going to be one of those series where the first book is amazing, but the sequel just never lives up to. Thankfully, not only did this one completely live up to the first book, but I also fell even more in love with the story, the characters, everything!

Some of the language between Emma and Brendan at the beginning of the book is rather cheesy. This made me a little worried about how much I was going to enjoy the book. However, this quickly became a non-issue as the book picked up in pace and intensity. Emma and Brendan are quite likely one of my all-time favorite YA couples. Their relationship is just very mature, romantic, and passionate. I absolutely adore them. Although I could go on about them for much longer, I would also like to mention some of the other fabulous characters such as Emma’s cousin and her best friend. Both of them break the stereotypes of what one would expect. This book has such a unique, engaging cast of characters, it is absolutely refreshing.

After the ending of the first book, it was hard to predict where the story was going to go. So much was wrapped up that I was not sure what this book was going to be about, and if it would still be as intense and exciting as the first. I am happy to say that this book is just as dramatic and spellbinding. It has danger, mystery, and a crazy villain. There is just enough magic to keep this a paranormal, but at the same time it is also grounded in realism.

Overall, I had the same experience with this as I had with Spellbound, I fell head-over-heels in love. This was a beautiful romance and a gripping mystery, and it is a book that you cannot put down. I would highly recommend this series. Fans of the Witch series by Carolyn MacCullough are likely to enjoy this, but anyone who enjoys a fabulous paranormal romance should check this out!

Sounds like a great book. I have a copy of the first book that I never got around to reading so I think I had better pick the first book up soon. Plus it is not often than the sequel is even better than book one 🙂

Thanks for the great review. Oh and I think you had a blog makeover while I wasn’t looking. It looks amazing, very sleek and pretty.
